Patterns of Degradation
2023

"Patterns of Degradation" examines various forms of ecological damage affecting Massachusetts, particularly the Cape Cod region. Oil spills, algal blooms, and red tides have lasting impacts on the area, progressively altering ecosystems and eroding their health. Paradoxically, these destructive forces create striking natural patterns, almost forming new landscapes.

By translating these patterns into resin, I aim to highlight both the deceptive beauty of these effects and their growing prevalence. The resin medium captures these patterns at a critical moment, just before they irreversibly change the environment, symbolizing their fleeting allure and eventual toxic devastation.
